This chart shows the Immigration breakdown of the top 10 largest Non Irish national groups as recorded by the 2006 census.
There was a total of 420,000 non-Irish nationals living in Ireland in April 2006, representing 188 different countries.
While the majority of immigrants came to Ireland to work it is also seen that many came to study. During the Celtic tiger years there was a surge of immigration into Ireland, particularly from eastern European countries. Many lived and worked in Dublin but other cities such as Cork, Galway and Limerick saw an influx of non Irish nationals.
